The links below detail the incarcerated individual statistics in correctional facilities operated by counties, New York City and New York State. The statistics represent the number of incarcerated individuals under custody at the end of each quarter, as follows:
Counties: These statistics represent the number of incarcerated individuals under custody in correctional facilities in the state’s 57 counties in Upstate and on Long Island. It excludes incarcerated individuals under custody in the five boroughs of New York City: Bronx, Kings, New York, Queens and Richmond.
NYC DOCS: These statistics represent the number of incarcerated individuals under custody of the New York City Department of Correction, which operates correctional facilities in the five boroughs.
NYS DOCCS: These statistics represent the number of incarcerated individuals under custody of the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, which oversees the state prisons. Individuals in state prison are sentenced to terms in excess of one year.
Monthly Jail Population: This report details average daily census figures based on daily counts submitted by each jail to the state Commission of Correction. Data is shown in this link is for the last 13 months.
Annual Jail Population: This report details average daily census figures based on daily counts submitted by each jail to the state Commission of Correction. New York City jail population figures have been reported to the state since 2016. As a result, New York State and New York City data are shown annually from 2016 through 2022.
